Over the course of the summer, Lila Love matured from an ugly duckling to a teen beauty. This has been noted by his stepbrother Allen, who keeps pursuing her. Allen is becoming a little tired of all the boys sniffing about and leaving letters because Lila is receiving attention from Allen’s pals. She confides in him that she doesn’t know why the boys who used to make fun of her are now being so polite. Allen yells at her and commands her to understand that boys only care about sex. Lila begins to wonder if she and her stepbrother have similar goals and if she shares their goals with him.
